New River Gorge National Park

Toward the end of October in 2023 I was in Virginia for work. My cousin was also interested in checking out all the National Parks and neither of us had been to New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. We only really had one full day to explore so we decided on a couple hikes and a cruise through the park. It was getting colder and a lot of the trees had already lost their leaves, but there was still some pretty colors throughout the area, but I would love to come back earlier in the fall because with the views from the trails it seemed like it would be incredible with more vivid colors. The hikes we did were the Long Point Trail and the Endless Wall trail. I had read that those trails give some pretty impressive views of the New Giver Bridge, and of course the Endless Wall of the gorge. Both were pretty incredible, and the views of the bridge, the wall, and the overlooks of the river/gorge along the way, were as amazing as advertised. Because time was pretty limited, I didn’t get a chance to do the Fayette Station Road, which takes you down into the canyon and showcases some of the history of the region, as this was the only route to cross the canyon before the bridge was constructed in the 1970s. If I ever make it back to West Virginia, I will definitely try to check out that drive, and hopefully see the trees changing colors.
