Washington D.C.

I wasn’t sure where to put pictures for Washington D.C. because I had never been there before 2022, when I got to visit for a work trip. Since then I have been a few times, once during the cherry blossoms and once as part of a family trip. For the family trip we decided to drive the I-95 corridor from Washington D.C. to New York, and stop in Baltimore and Philadelphia on the way. Everytime I have been to D.C. I have spent a lot of time at the National Mall and the Smithsonian Museums. I figured I’d do a couple sets of photos, the first set is photos of the monuments and memorials at the National Mall from all my trips

The second set of photos will be pictures I took at the Smithsonian Museums. I haven’t been to every Museum…yet, and these photos don’t have pictures from all the museums I did go to, but they are some of my favorite. I think my family’s favorites were the Natural History Museum and the Air and Space Museum. We went to both the Air and Space Museum at the National Mall and the Annex in Chantilly and loved them both. I had a conversation with my cousin who lives in the DC area and talked about how crazy it felt to actually see some of the most historic object in American History. I had been to museums that might have had a B-29 Superfortress, but to actually turn a corner and see the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, was a surrealistic experience. Or see a space shuttle and look at the plaque and realize it’s not a model, but the actual space shuttle Discovery. I also included some areas outside the Smithsonian Museums and we stopped by the National Archives to see the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights.
The final set of photos are from the Cherry Blossom Festival. I was actually really lucky, because of changing water levels the Park Service was about to dig up a bunch of the cherry trees, and I got there the day before they started. I went to the University of Washington, which has cherry trees on campus and have always had a soft spot for cherry blossoms. I had heard of D.C.’s cherry trees, but didn’t expect to get a chance to see them, but an impromptu work trip and just the right time gave me the opportunity. I didn’t really have a schedule, I just walked around and enjoyed the views and the weather.
