Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

As part of my family’s I-95 road trip wanted to make sure and stop in Philadelphia. While the trip was a fun family trip, it also had a big focus on early American history, we had visited the Declaration of Independence at the National Archives in DC earlier in the trip and I wanted the kids to see where it was originally debated and signed at Liberty Hall. It was a little chilly because when I brought the kids it was January, but we were able to watch fireworks from our hotel room for New Years. Some of the pictures from around town were from a previous trip because for some reason the kids weren’t interested in seeing whether Geno’s or Pat’s had a better Philly Cheese-steak. The line outside the Liberty Bell was also pretty long, so I didn’t force the kids to wait and the pictures are from a previous trip. Between me, my 6 year old daughter, and 10 year old son, I was the only one who wanted to go to the Rocky statue, so those pictures are from a different trip too.

At the time we went on the trip my son was interested in Naval ships. I had made him a couple models of WWII aircraft carriers and Battleships, and we visited the USS Midway when we went to San Diego. When we found out we could visit the USS New Jersey, and that it was just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, we crossed the Benjamin Franklin Bridge into New Jersey to check it out. It was a breezy day, but it was a lot of fun.

These pictures are actually from on our way back south from New York following the I-95 road trip. I wanted to take the kids to Gettysburg while we were driving though Pennsylvania, but we passed a sign for the city of Hershey, and I made the mistake of telling the kids that’s where Hershey chocolate started and that they had an amusement park there where you could make your own chocolate bar. Needless to say, we didn’t make it to Gettysburg…
