Sand Point, Alaska

Sand Point is a beautiful community on Popof Island, home to approximately 1,000 people. It was always closely related to my hometown of King Cove, the villages are like siblings, with specific differences, but also many similarities. Similar to King Cove, commercial fishing is the dominant industry. Sand Point is within the Shumagin Island group, with many of the people living there today originating from nearby communities of Unga and Sanak Islands. Sand Point was chosen as one of the communities to receive fiber optic internet services, and Area M Consulting was contracted to do the cultural monitoring.
